The proposed project, identified as DPS-7914(1), CN-22228, is in the initial stages of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Interchange Justification Report (IJR) to study construction of an interchange on US Interstate Highway 80 (I-80) at the location of the existing Pflug Road overpass in Sarpy County, approximately three miles east of the Platte River Bridge. Over the past several years, Sarpy County has emerged as the fasting growing county in Nebraska. This growth has begun to extend along the approximately 50-mile long corridor of I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln. According to the Sarpy County Economic Development Department, the county has a shortage of available sites for major employment facilities. Potential businesses are seeking sites with relatively flat topography, willing property owners, and good access to I-80. Currently, southern Sarpy County meets the first two criteria but is lacking in access to the interstate. Sarpy County's location in the center of this corridor is a desirable setting for major employers seeking visibility and close proximity to the interstate system. In order to provide future access to southern Sarpy County and congestion relief to existing interchanges, local, state and federal agencies have been evaluating and planning for the location and construction of interchanges since early 2000. This vicinity map shows the study area and proposed new interchanges in Sarpy County. |
